& Process

I sent in my application for the student role through the company's website. First, I spoke with HR, and then I was given a take-home test on Codility. The test was mainly SQL and timed. I didn't pass, so that was the end of the interview process.

The HR person didn't really explain the interview stages at first, just asked some questions and sent me to a technical interview. After I passed that, I interviewed with the technical manager and found out there were more steps, including another HR chat. The second HR meeting had some weird questions, like what I'd ask a future manager or to give feedback as if I were my old boss. She also wanted contact info for previous bosses, and I only managed to give one. She then called my former boss for a quick video chat about my work and teamwork, and said she'd get back to me the next day with an offer. But then she ghosted for three days. When I asked for an update, I got an automated rejection email saying my resume wasn't a good fit, which is weird since I passed the technical stage. When I pushed for details, they said I didn't have enough experience - a reason that only appeared in the fourth stage! It's strange they wasted so much time, including my former boss's, just to send a generic rejection.

The whole hiring thing went really well. First up was an online test with some basic English and math, a computer skills check, and a personality test. It was pretty quick, under an hour. Then I had an in-person interview with the sales team lead, which was a typical sales interview. They didn't throw any curveballs and were pretty relaxed, even cracked a few jokes at the start. That lasted about two hours. The last step was an HR interview to see if I'd be a good fit for the company overall, which took about an hour. They kept me in the loop professionally the whole time, and the whole process from the first HR call to the offer took less than two weeks.

The interview process included an initial screen call, followed by a conversation with the DevOps Architect, which went smoothly and felt easy. Next, I spoke with the Hiring Manager, and that also seemed straightforward with some loosely coupled questions. The final step was supposed to be an HR talk, but it was cancelled 15 minutes beforehand without any explanation. They didn't get back to me when I asked for feedback on why or if they were looking for someone cheaper. Thankfully, I got a better offer elsewhere a few days later, so it feels like their loss. The whole experience had a few red flags, so I'm glad I dodged that bullet.
