First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Milbank LLP.
Legal Assistant
Milbank LLP was super responsive, and the interview process was straightforward. I had a screening call, then heard back for a second round interview after two days. I found out two days after that they decided not to move forward with my application, which was upsetting because it was my top choice. However, everyone was super friendly and it seems like a great work environment.
- Why do you want to work at Milbank LLP?
Summer Vacation Scheme
really enjoyable interview, assessment centre tasks aren't designed to catch you out, just practice writing exercise, brush up on commercial knowledge and know the firm's strengths for the interview. don't need to be perfect for all the exercises, just have to do well and not make any big mistakes.
- What is your motivation for applying to Milbank?
- What are your reasons for pursuing a career in commercial law?
Summer Associate
I had a 30-minute screener through my school's pre-OCI program (T14). I got invited to a callback interview 3-4 days later. The in-person callback was in NY with 2 associates and 2 partners. It included a small number of behavioral questions. Make sure to prepare thoughtful questions to ask at the end. The people were very friendly. They have particularly strong finance practices.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in Milbank?
- Do you have any practice areas you're particularly interested in?
Business Development Manager
I applied in late December 2021, and despite the holiday season, the process moved fast. I met with HR, then the BD team, and finally partners, all within about two weeks. I got an offer in early January 2022, right around the same time I got another offer for a similar role. The other offer paid $5,000 more per year and had a slightly better vacation policy, but otherwise, they were very similar. I asked for a week to decide, and Milbank gave me until the weekend. I chatted with a former employee over the weekend who spoke highly of Milbank, so I decided to go with them. On Monday, I told them I was leaning towards accepting but mentioned the other offer with better pay and vacation, asking if there was any room to negotiate. Later that day, HR emailed to say they were withdrawing the offer! I called them the next morning, stating that even if they couldn't match the salary or improve the vacation policy (I had a family wedding during my first week, and they wouldn't let me take it off or adjust my start date to avoid it), I was still very interested. Later that day, HR sent another email confirming their decision to rescind the offer. They couldn't increase a manager's salary by $5k, even after raising starting salaries for first-year lawyers with no experience to $215k!
