First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Meritage Homes.
Sales Associate
I had a preliminary phone interview which went well, and then I was invited for in-person interviews. The in-person part was a panel with 3 people who each asked me some questions. They told me at the end it went great and I'd hear from them. About a week later, one of them texted me to say they hadn't finished interviewing everyone and I was still a strong candidate. Then things went quiet. The same person told me twice that I'd hear from him soon, but in the end, I was ghosted without any feedback.
- What motivates you to be successful and keeps you driven every day?
Sales Manager
My interview experience with the Houston division was really bad. The hiring panel was late, and one person didn't show up for almost an hour after we were supposed to start, and they didn't even say anything about it. The meeting went from professional to messy really fast. They talked a lot about personal accomplishments instead of the actual job or what the company is trying to do. It was obvious they hadn't looked at my background because they asked questions that missed important parts of my experience. Sometimes, the conversation felt like they were talking down to me and were distracted, making it hard to talk about leadership or what they expect performance-wise. The recruiter I first talked to was great and seemed excited about me. But after the last interview, nobody contacted me. My follow-up messages were ignored, and I got a standard rejection email not long after they told me the process would take some time. All in all, it felt unprofessional and disorganized. The lack of preparation, the dismissive attitude, and the bad communication really showed the division's leadership culture. I'd tell candidates to really consider if they want to spend a lot of time on their process.
- Are you considering other job opportunities currently?
Marketing Manager
There will be several interviews for this corporate, divisional Marketing Manager role. It usually starts with a Talent Manager and a PI Test. Then, you'll meet the Regional Marketing Director you'd report to. If that goes well, you'll likely interview with division leadership, like the VP of Sales and Division President, given the dotted line to them. After that, you might meet the VP of Field Marketing. A Peer Interview is often included, which is great because you'd meet someone in the same job function who can share insights into the day-to-day.
- What insights did you gain from researching our company?
- What questions do you have for us regarding the company or your potential role here?
Intern
The hiring process was efficient. It started with two predictive index assessments. Then, a phone interview was conducted to gauge mutual interest and fit, along with some initial questions. Finally, there was a one-on-one virtual interview. The team was friendly and supportive, indicating a desire for candidates to succeed.
- Can you share a project you're very proud of and the reasons behind your pride?
- Could you introduce yourself briefly?
