I applied and didn’t get an interview for 4 weeks. Then the interview was basic STAR method. I thought the interviews went really well. I did feel the recruiter didn’t know much about the position. I went through the process of interviewing with the recruiter, hiring manager and then the director. I was told I would hear back by the end of the week and was ghosted. Finally after about 5 weeks I reached out and was told they decided to go with another candidate. Felt like my time I spent to Interview wasn’t respected and it was completely unprofessional. If you give someone a deadline when they would hear back at least give some sort of update.

I'm so tired of being ghosted. I've interviewed for about 20 positions here in the last 6 months. You do the interview and then the recruiter and hiring managers ghost you, or send you an email when you follow up 3-5 weeks after the interview saying there is no update and they'll reach out when there is. In my last interview, the hiring managers literally said we don't even know if we're going to fill this. STOP WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME!!!!

I'm not usually one to write about initial screens, but this one was just too rough not to document. The recruiter called and confused my personal projects with actual work experience. I mean, no offense intended, but the titles clearly say 'Projects' – how could anyone mistake 'US Housing Forecast Project' for a company? I had no prior experience, so I explained my motivation for doing the projects, and she seemed genuinely puzzled by the idea of personal projects, which is quite common in data science. When the discussion turned to commute times, she asked if I was certain about considering a long commute, and even after I confirmed, she asked again. Towards the end, she unexpectedly upped the required years of experience from the 1-2 years stated on the job page to 2-3 years, essentially indicating I wasn't a fit. I got a rejection email the next day.

Applied in early Feb, got a call from HR on March 14th to chat about my background, the job perks, pay, and what's expected. HR was super clear and said they wanted to set up an interview. The interview was on March 16th with two hiring managers who asked me situational questions. It was a really chill and friendly chat, and I felt like I clicked with them right away. I think it went really well! Got a call the very next day, March 17th, with an offer that met my salary expectations. I decided and accepted today. The whole process was smooth sailing, and I'm super stoked to get started!
