First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Maurices.
Retail Associate
My interview at Maurices was great. They communicated clearly and professionally from the start, and I felt welcome when I got to the store. The interviewer was nice and asked good questions about my experience, when I'm available, and how I approach customer service. I liked that the chat was real and not just reading from a script, which let me show my skills and personality easily. Overall, the process was fast, supportive, and made me want to join the team.
- Tell me about how you work with people and handle customer interactions.
Assistant Manager
It was a very casual process. They asked about my past retail work and my future ambitions. Standard interview questions were asked, followed by questions about specific situations, like how I'd handle an unhappy customer. Since e-commerce was booming then, they wanted to see if I could incorporate it into daily customer service.
- What makes you want to work here?
- Could you tell me about your previous retail experience?
- What are your plans for the future?
Sales Associate
I heard from someone else who interviewed around the same time and she also didn't hear back from the manager. The store manager brought me in pretty fast for an interview. It was done in the dressing room area of the store. She used the 'tell me a time...' type of interview method. She said I'd hear back that evening or the next day about training that would start soon. I never heard back. It's also worth noting the pay is really low, around $10/hr for only 5-15 hours a week, which honestly shocked me. My only advice is to actually reach out to people when you say you will. I got no emails or calls or anything.
- Can you share a time when you really excelled?
- What would people who know you say about your strengths?
- How do you make your style choices?
CAD Designer
About a month after applying, I had a teams video interview with the Recruiter. She knew more about the company than the position. Two days after that interview, I was invited to a teams video interview with the Senior Textile Designer and Director. In that interview, I was asked to complete a small print design project where they ask you to create artwork similar to specific garments online. They gave me a few days to complete the project, then asked for it to be emailed to them.
- What is your motivation for wanting to join Maurices?
- Could you describe your process for identifying emerging trends?
- How do you manage your workload and prioritize tasks when things get hectic?
