First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Magenic.
Associate Consultant
I got this job at Magenic after applying through a recruiter I met at a career fair. The interview process began at the career fair itself, where I spoke with both an internal recruiter and a consulting manager. Following that initial meeting, I was invited for the first official interview round. This round involved a written test with multiple-choice questions covering standard Object-Oriented Programming concepts, and I also had to solve a few coding problems on paper, essentially whiteboarding them. After completing the test, I was told a manager would grade it and they'd get back to me. The very next day, I got a call saying I did well on the test and they wanted me to come in for the final round of interviews the week after. The final round included meetings with developers who asked typical programming interview questions and coding problems, along with some higher-ups who engaged in a more conversational Q&A. The day after that, the recruiter called to see if I wanted to accept their offer.
- How would you go about designing the game of chess, including its classes, methods, and logic for validating moves?
Software Developer
So the interview process was pretty standard but took a while and went through everything. First, I got some emails from a recruiter. Then, I had a phone call. After that, I went in for an in-person meeting where I had to do a written technical test. The test had multiple-choice questions on SQL and .NET, plus some C# code to read and understand. Then, they scheduled another date for me to meet the team, which included peers, managers, and folks from QA and development. Everyone was super nice and mostly asked casual questions about my background or work. Some questions involved solving a puzzle or riddle, and others were coding challenges on a whiteboard, like 'write code to do X.' After the last interview, they responded really fast and I got an offer the very next day. It was a really good experience, and everyone I met seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say, which is a big reason why I wanted to work there.
- I have two US coins that add up to 55 cents; one isn't a nickel, what are they?
- Tell me about your 2 best qualities.
- What about your 3 worst qualities?
Consultant
First met with the GM and Consulting Manager for a general fit interview. The technical screen wasn't too tough if you already have the experience, but they really wanted to check specific architectures and technologies. They are looking for candidates who know the technologies, have experience using them, possess great people skills, good problem-solving abilities, and show passion for solutions and business impact. It seems like they want you to prove yourself before they give you an offer, and the initial offers might be lower than you expect, but negotiation is possible. You might also have to negotiate for vacation time; it's challenging to get but worth it.
- What's the most difficult part about putting together a package that includes tech chops, people skills, and communication?
- Tell me about a time you had to solve a problem and how you applied yourself.
Human Resources Generalist
I applied over the weekend and got an email for a phone interview on Monday. We spoke the next morning for about 30 minutes, it was pretty casual. The recruiter talked about my resume and the company/role. We then scheduled an onsite interview for Friday with the senior recruiter. I didn't hear back until Thursday afternoon about the confirmation. The onsite went well, I got a tour and was told they'd know who was moving on later that day. I followed up the next Wednesday, but it's been two weeks and I haven't heard anything, which is disappointing.
- Can you tell me about a manager you really liked working with and explain the reasons why?
