Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Magenic.
Consultant
So I had an HR screen first, over the phone. Then, a technical one-on-one call with a technical consultant. After that, there was a management panel interview to check culture fit and soft skills. Magenic is mostly a Microsoft shop, so the technical interview really focused on C#, .NET, ASP.NET, and SQL Server. The management panel had two consulting managers and the regional manager for consulting.
- What do you enjoy most about being a consultant?
- Describe your approach to client interactions.
Consultant
I went through at least 2 phone interviews and then a face-to-face interview.
- Can you explain what polymorphism is?
Consultant
First met with the GM and Consulting Manager for a general fit interview. The technical screen wasn't too tough if you already have the experience, but they really wanted to check specific architectures and technologies. They are looking for candidates who know the technologies, have experience using them, possess great people skills, good problem-solving abilities, and show passion for solutions and business impact. It seems like they want you to prove yourself before they give you an offer, and the initial offers might be lower than you expect, but negotiation is possible. You might also have to negotiate for vacation time; it's challenging to get but worth it.
- What's the most difficult part about putting together a package that includes tech chops, people skills, and communication?
- Tell me about a time you had to solve a problem and how you applied yourself.
