& Process

I applied, and a recruiter emailed me back four days later. We had an initial phone screen the next day that lasted about 20 minutes. They asked me about myself, my hobbies, and why I wanted to work at LevelUp. It was quick and went well. A few days later, they scheduled an in-person interview for the following week called 'The Challenge.' For this, I had to act as a LevelUp rep and pitch the service to a local business of my choice. It was a bit nerve-wracking but I think it went really well. Three people acted as the business owners and asked questions about my pitch. After the pitch, which took 5-10 minutes, they asked about my background and interest in LevelUp. The interview was short, friendly, and concise. It's important to be yourself; they want to hire the real you. The office is laid-back with a fun, hardworking staff. Be ready to sell yourself and know everything about LevelUp. I was a bit unsure based on reviews, but they seem to be restructuring with a strong focus on LevelUp. I'm hopeful about a callback, but if not, it was good practice.

I had a phone screen with the recruiter. Then I was given an assignment about POST/GET endpoints. After that was a codeshare exercise. The final round was onsite. My recruiter was great and responsive. However, during the onsite interviews, the interviewers didn't seem very engaged. One of them even admitted he forgot the questions he was supposed to ask and we ended up working on a design question spontaneously. I found this very unprofessional, especially since the onsite interview is a significant time commitment, requiring me to take time off from my current job.

The interview process was great with LevelUp, consisting of three rounds. First was an initial phone screen with the recruiter, followed by a phone screen with the team manager. The final round was an onsite interview where I met with team members. Everyone I met was nice, smart, and driven. The recruiter was transparent and moved quickly. The onsite included two mini case studies that were not too difficult. Although they ultimately hired someone with more startup experience, it was still a positive experience.

I had to create a game for them, which I did. I parked in a paid lot as instructed. Upon arrival, the front desk was unattended, so I had to wander around calling out. I eventually found someone who located another person, who finally found the person I needed to speak with. I ended up waiting 35 minutes for her. I was then interviewed by two junior people who asked two nonsensical questions, giggling the whole time. After leaving and paying for parking, they kept my game idea and never called me back.
