The interview process was really smooth. First, I spoke with Kristin, the HR person, who knew her stuff and was really interested in my background. Then, I had interviews with the managers, and it was a really welcoming and relaxed vibe. I was a bit nervous going in, but they made me feel comfortable right away and were totally upfront about everything.

I applied in June for a job starting in October. I interviewed in September and got the offer. But then, 3 days before I was supposed to start, they told me my background check hadn't come back and I couldn't start. They didn't explain why at first. The HR person was super casual about it and didn't seem to care. When I pushed, she finally admitted there was a delay with criminal checks from Cook County and kept saying it depended on what they found. She used to be nice, but then she was dismissive. She didn't offer any info on when the next orientation would be. Turns out, they check credit history, which they never told me. They rescinded the offer because I'd be handling sensitive info. I told her they should mention the credit check, and she said it was on the background check application, which is always there but doesn't mean they'll use it. They should disclose that upfront. I passed the criminal check, though.

The interview process was better than most of the companies I've been applying to. It didn't feel scripted or question after question like some interviews feel like. When I talked with John Kerulis and Andy Crutchfield, they went more in depth on what the job entails and it seemed like they were very passionate about it. I also got to learn about themselves and how they got to where they were which was cool. When I asked them questions about the job, the responses helped me further know what comes with it all and didn't keep me in the dark.

I met the recruiter at a campus career fair for a quick 10 minute chat. Afterward, I reached out to set up another meeting. Then, I had a 15-minute online interview with the recruiter to go over more details. About a week later, I got an email to schedule an in-person interview at their Westchester office. When I got there, I met with two directors for about an hour. We had a pretty relaxed conversation that felt casual, and then I did an Excel test to check my skills.
