First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lazard.
Intern
So the interview had some basic tech and behavioral questions, nothing too difficult, but it did involve a lot of accounting and valuation. The behavioral questions were pretty standard, like tell me about yourself, your greatest weakness, and why you're interested in investment banking.
- Can you walk me through the three financial statements?
- Explain valuation.
M&A Analyst
- Could you explain why you are interested in Lazard?
- Could you explain why you are interested in M&A?
- Can you describe the M&A process?
Spring Insight
The process was pretty straightforward, much like other typical hirevues. It involved 3 questions in total, which were behavioural and situational, not overly difficult. The focus was on motivation, teamwork, commercial awareness, and understanding of Lazard’s culture and values.
- What do you enjoy doing outside of finance?
- Tell me about your hobbies outside of finance.
Investment Banking Analyst
The interview process involves assessing both personality and some math skills. Typically, there are about 5 questions, always including inquiries about why Lazard and why investment banking. The interviews might consist of 3 rounds: 2 behavioral and 1 technical. It might be helpful to prepare some case studies and market sizing questions.
- Can you explain your interest in Lazard and how you align with the firm?
- Why are you interested in a career in investment banking?
