So the whole thing took about a month and a half and had two parts. First up was a hour-long HR chat. They said I'd hear back by Jan 5th, but I actually got a response on Jan 12th. Then they wanted me to come in for an in-person meeting with the Marketing Director. I asked if the next week would work and they said sure. We met, and the Director went over my resume and asked some questions. They said they'd let me know in a few days. I sent a thank-you email the next day, but it's been three weeks and still no word. Not even a rejection! Super unprofessional.

The whole interview was automated using an AI platform. I was asked 5 pre-recorded questions about typical behavioral and situational topics like leadership, communication, adaptability, teamwork, and industry knowledge. I had to record my answers under time pressure, with no live interaction. After I finished, I got a detailed, personalized assessment from the AI. It pointed out that while my leadership in a college project was noted, I should be clearer about my actions and results. My motivation was seen, but my communication sometimes lacked structure. For adaptability, I was advised to give more concrete examples of dealing with surprises. My enthusiasm was good, but my delivery and insights could be more structured. For teamwork, I should make my contributions and their effects clearer. And I should show more knowledge of current tech trends and issues.

The interview was supposed to be virtual at 11:30 AM but got rescheduled last minute to 3:30 PM in person, which was 8km away. I got there and they made me wait 1.5 hours with no word. I had to go ask the receptionist and found out the HR person forgot about me. They talked to me for five minutes about my CV and then told me to wait again for the main interview. Then they told me the interviewer was busy and couldn't see me. They said I was 'below average' with no technical questions or assignment, which is unfair. It felt like they didn't care about my time and mismanaged the whole thing, which was surprising for a Japanese company.

The interviews were pretty standard for a corporation. First, I had a call with an agent (it was an external hiring agency), then I had a second call with my future manager and a future colleague. After that went well, I had a third and final call with HR and the department manager. It was all done in under 10 days, and I got an offer with a detailed package explanation a few days later. It was a good experience, not stressful, and I felt good about the company and the people.
