First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kyocera.
Process Engineer
The interview was conducted over Zoom with four members of the team. They asked questions related to the resume, including queries about previous job roles and the products manufactured by Kyocera.
- Can you describe your role in previous positions?
- What products does Kyocera manufacture?
- How do you handle challenging colleagues?
Process Engineer
Had a phone interview with HR, mostly personality questions. A week later, I was invited for an on-site interview that lasted an hour. It involved 3 engineering managers and the HR manager. The interview was a mix of personality and technical questions. A key moment was when my potential manager, who didn't speak Japanese, needed to translate English words to Japanese and vice versa using an electronic dictionary. He'd pause mid-sentence, show me the translated word, and then finish the sentence in English. This made me decide to intentionally fail the interview. I couldn't see myself working in a place where I'd have such communication challenges with my manager. While he seemed kind, for me, this was a potential disaster. Another manager criticized my GPA, saying it wasn't good enough. The last manager was disengaged, mostly nodding while on his computer. The manager who questioned my GPA had a condescending attitude, possibly due to cultural views on people with weaker academic backgrounds. It didn't bother me much because by the end, it was clear neither side was interested in continuing. As expected, I didn't get an offer, which felt like avoiding a bad situation. They mentioned that the role involves a lot of overtime and working intensely from the start.
- If one manager wants to rush products out and another wants thorough checks before shipping, how would you handle that situation?
- What led to you entering a Masters program with a low GPA?
- Can you tell us about yourself?
Process Engineer
I was contacted by a panel of engineers for a phone interview. It was a rushed interview because they started ten minutes late. They didn't offer me the position because I mentioned that I would like to advance in position after 5 years of contribution to the company.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
