The interview was about an hour long and felt good. It was mostly technical discussion and problem-solving. They asked me specific questions about tracking self-driving cars, like telemetry data, car positions, and understanding lanes. Overall, it was a solid interview that gave a good look into the actual problems in autonomous vehicles.

The interview had 3 parts. First, a coding interview with a mid-level engineer where they asked general questions about robotics. Then, two more rounds with a perception engineer and the head of AI, which included more coding questions and a deep dive into my resume.

Coding Technical System Design Case

The first step was a coding interview where I had to write a simple function and its unit tests. After that, I was invited for on-site interviews. The on-site involved two coding problems, some math questions, and a system design question. Everyone I met seemed engaged and knowledgeable. It felt like they really care about code quality. The system design question was about a problem I'd tackle in the role. Honestly, during that part, I felt like they were just looking for free consulting instead of actually hiring. Other people have mentioned this feeling too. I guess it's good practice, but don't assume they're serious about hiring you.

Coding System Design

The interview process felt unprofessional. The interviewer was 5 minutes late. The coding portion was completed in 10 minutes, followed by general discussion and then a system design round, which wasn't even planned. The interviewer didn't seem to fully grasp the problems they were asking, and I had to point out issues. It was odd that the interviewer didn't complete the questions. Despite answering all coding and design questions correctly, I received a random rejection. I suspect they might just be window shopping, based on other reviews with bad experiences.

  • A LeetCode easy level problem
  • A simple LeetCode medium level problem
