The interview process seemed to be mostly about the application itself, which I found a bit odd since they already had my resume. After that, there was a brief one-on-one chat in a hallway where anyone could walk by.

Marketing Manager
I applied through LinkedIn. After an initial HR phone screen, there were five more interviews, all done over Zoom. I spoke with the one-up director, a senior director, and a couple of VPs. The Kimpton culture really came through, with everyone seeming thoughtful, energized, and authentic. However, the department was going through a restructuring, and the role itself shifted, which really caused the process to drag on.
- Can you describe your skills and experience?
Area Sales Manager
The interview process started with a phone interview with the Director of Sales, followed by an in-person interview with the same Director. Then, I had in-person interviews with each General Manager of the hotels I would be managing. This was a really fun process. Kimpton prioritizes personality that fits their brand and traits that align with company goals over pure qualifications. My unique resume got me the interview, and I focused on letting my personality show instead of just listing my abilities. I got the job offer very quickly after meeting everyone involved in the decision.

Front Desk Agent
So, I initially applied for the overnight guest services job. I met with their night supervisor, and it went great, so they had me come back the next night to meet with the manager. That also went super well. But then I got an email a few days later saying they'd hired someone else for the overnight role, but they wanted me to apply for the Day guest services position since they thought I'd fit better. I was cool with that, so I applied and got an interview immediately. I ended up going back a third time to chat with two more managers, who coincidentally had the same first name. Those interviews were awesome too; I was there for like an hour and a half talking with each of them. I directly asked both of them (in separate interviews) if I was a good fit and what they needed in an employee. They both said yes without hesitation. One of them was the Senior manager, he said meeting him was basically just a formality, and that I'd been highly recommended by the other managers and the supervisor. I felt really good about it, and the next day got a follow-up email asking for my references and uniform size (they never actually called my references, I checked). A week passed, and still nothing, so I sent them an email to see if they needed anything else from me. No reply. Another week went by, and nada. I figured they'd gone with someone else for the job, so I sent yet another email saying thanks for considering me, it was a good interview, and please keep me in mind for future openings. Still. No. Response. So, yesterday I called to talk to one of the day managers. He was in a meeting, which is fine. But I called back this morning, and the receptionist almost put me through, only to say he'd just stepped out. Right after she indicated he was available. I'm just at a loss for words. I can't believe how unprofessional things are handled here. The fact that I never even got a simple email saying thanks but no thanks is just wild. When I say they made it seem like I had this job locked down, I really mean it. Seriously, 3 separate interviews with four different managers, and over $100 in cab fare! All they had to do was tell me I didn't get it, and I would have moved on weeks ago! I definitely won't be applying to that hotel again. I don't know if this is typical for Kimpton hotels (I doubt it), but Mason & Rook really let me down.
