Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.
Accountant
I applied online and about a week later the Director of Finance emailed me to set up an in-person interview for the following week. When the interview day came, it was surprisingly casual and not stressful at all, which was a relief because interviews usually make me anxious. I spoke with the Director of Finance, shared some info about myself, and explained my interest in an accounting role. What caught me off guard was the absence of technical or standard behavioral questions; we mainly discussed the company and the accounting department, making it feel more like a casual chat. About a week after, I received a job offer over the phone and provided details for a background check. They were flexible about my start date, which was also a plus. The company seems to really value personality and authenticity. While the salary wasn't as high as I'd hoped, it's a good opportunity for some post-college experience.
- Can you explain your interest in an accounting role, especially given your major?
- What is your availability to start?
- Are you comfortable with handling phone calls?
Staff Accountant
The interview process was quick to schedule and move along. The interviewers were friendly; however, one of them seemed pessimistic about my fit for the role, suggesting I might be overqualified and wouldn't stay long. This made me question if it was the right fit, so I decided not to proceed with the final interview.
- Could you share details about your previous work experience?
Accountant
I applied for the job online and heard back about two weeks later to schedule an interview with the Assistant Director of Finance. After that, I interviewed with the Director of Finance two days later. They told me I got the job two days after that.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Can you commit to prioritizing work demands over personal commitments when deadlines approach?
