An employee came to campus for initial screenings, not a recruiter. I then had another interview that included the standard questions about my strengths, weaknesses, and why I'm interested in the company.

I was a college hire so they interviewed me on my campus. I was invited for a college open house which is a two day all expenses paid interview experience for a thursday to friday in October. Dinner the night you arrive with all others invited plus 8-10 current Kearney employees. Then you have presentations, meet one person from senior management (CEO, CFO, Executive Vice Presidents) and have lunch. Then you have three separate 30 min interviews with a partner, a principal, and a senior manager. You go home and wait for a call after. I received one the following Monday and accepted officially about a month later.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • They asked about me as a person, like my hobbies, my favorite music, how I spend my free time, what matters most to me, and how I got where I was at that point.
  • Since they have your resume, they can see all the professional stuff, so they really drill you on who you are as a person.
  • They say you'd rather hire someone with less experience who you want to work with than someone you can't stand who is an expert.

I applied through my college’s career office for an on-campus opportunity. The application itself was pretty simple, but the interview that followed was unfortunately very unprofessional. The interview was supposed to be 30 minutes long, but the interviewer cut it short to less than 15 minutes. They kept interrupting me when I was trying to explain my background and experience, and they wouldn’t even make eye contact, just staring at the wall. Then they asked me basic things like my major and job history, which were already on my resume, cover letter, and application, and I’d just explained them in the ‘tell me about yourself’ part.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Could you please introduce yourself and share some details about your background?
  • What is your academic major?
  • Can you tell me about any previous work experience you have?

The interview process was pretty painless. It started with a phone interview where I knew I had to communicate my desire to become a CPA in the immediate future since Kearney is a CPA firm and I am not one. Then, I came in and met with the recruiter, who gave me a tour and we talked about the job and my qualifications. After that, I met two other staff II accountants who were auditors. I asked them about their jobs and any challenges they faced when they started. It took a little while to get an offer because they were waiting for an audit spot to open up, but once it did, the offer came quickly and I was hired.
