First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jobs for the Future.
Senior Manager
The interview process included an HR screening, a performance task, and two virtual panel interviews. Each panel interview lasted an hour with 2-3 interviewers. Questions focused on tasks in the job description. The performance task was a short writing exercise similar to what the role would require. They suggested 2 hours, but I took more time over a week. The HR team was organized and responsive. The whole process took about a month from application. They kept me updated on my progress as promised. It was a good experience.
- Could you share instances where you've crafted important policy recommendations for state or federal bodies?
- Describe your approach to writing.
- How do you handle juggling multiple projects at once?
Intern
For this internship, you'll mostly get behavioral questions. They want to know about your leadership stuff and how it fits the internship role. It's to see your people skills, how you solve problems, and if you're a good fit for the company. Expect questions about your leadership style, how you deal with team challenges, and times you stepped up or led. Be ready to give examples from before that show you can lead, work with others, and be a good team player.
- Can you share an example of a time you demonstrated leadership?
Senior Program Manager
The interview process involved an initial phone screening with HR, followed by a one-on-one with the hiring manager. Then there was a performance assessment which took about 2-3 hours. The process concluded with a panel interview. I really liked that they focused on equity, which is why the performance assessment took so long, and they acknowledged that time commitment. Usually, they leave about 10-15 minutes for your questions at the end.
- Can you share an instance where your communication was not effective? What steps would you take differently next time?
- Which part of this program manager role do you anticipate being difficult for you, and what's the reason?
Program Manager
The interview process at JFF was longer than usual. Many applicants probably get screened out early by HR and the performance task. I liked that I got to show what I can do through the task, it felt like it demonstrated my skills better than just talking about past jobs. It was also nice talking with people who could be my coworkers. The JFF process wasn't necessarily harder than others, but the time needed for all the conversations might be tough for some people to manage.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Describe a challenging situation you have faced.
- What are your plans for your first week in this role?
