First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JB Hi-Fi.
Sales Assistant
It was a pretty straightforward process. They called me in, and I had to wait about half an hour because the person interviewing me was busy chatting with another staff member. Probably just catching up on gossip. I didn't get selected because they have a specific set of criteria that I just didn't meet. They want their employees to look a certain way: white, wearing shorts, with gum in their mouth, brightly colored hair, tattoos everywhere, and no tech knowledge. My appearance, with formal shoes, a neatly ironed shirt, and trousers, wasn't what they were looking for. They seem to prefer hiring homeless people or hippies for their stores.
- Could you explain your understanding of customer service?

I had an interview at JB Hi-Fi Myaree HOME. It had 3 parts: a quick phone call, a group activity where we had to build a spaghetti tower, figure out a deserted island scenario, and look at shipping invoices, and then a short 1-on-1 chat at the end. It was a really relaxed and simple process.
- In what ways could you use your skills at JB Hi-Fi?
- Can you share an instance where you provided exceptional service to a customer?
- Please tell us a bit about yourself and what you enjoy doing in your free time.
Retail Associate
It was a joke. They put you in a group interview where managers and HR just laugh at people. Seems they only hire people that fill their diversity quotas. They make you do four stupid activities that have no bearing on the job at all, like colouring in a drawing and writing words. Doesn't matter what you do, they already know who they hire. I'm more than qualified for this with years of experience in retail and tech, and they couldn't even give me any feedback as to why I was rejected.
- Describe the person beside you.

The interview was conducted on Microsoft Teams via video call and included about 10 applicants along with the Hiring Manager. We each introduced ourselves and mentioned the last item we purchased from JB Hi-Fi. There were two main tasks. First, we were given a list of items for a desert island and had to work together to rank them by essentiality, testing teamwork. Second, each applicant received a product from the JB website and a customer profile. We had about 10 minutes to review the product details before returning to demonstrate how we would sell it.
