Gameplay Engineer
I was shortlisted for an interview with a Lead Programmer in January 2026. On the day of the interview, I connected to the call on time, but nobody else was there. I waited for 15 minutes, then emailed the recruiter. At the 40 minute mark, I gave up. The recruiter called after the interview slot, confused, and promised to look into it. A full day later, he still hadn't explained. The following week, he called to explain the interviewer was on PTO and my interview was a clerical error. He also mentioned they were having trouble finding candidates with Unreal's GAS expertise and had decided to work with a co-development studio. I don't know if they never intended to interview me or just changed their minds. I saw another recruiter post about open positions, including the one I applied for. I pointed this out and expressed interest in reapplying, as the co-dev studio arrangement might have fallen through. He encouraged me to apply, so I did, and also applied for two other roles. I've since been rejected for one (over five weeks after applying) and expect the same for the others. It was a very disappointing experience that destroyed my trust in Jagex, especially since I'd created a whole portfolio piece for the role. I know recruitment is tough now, but this experience isn't excusable.

Gameplay Programmer
Started with a casual meet and greet with the lead and technical director. Then had a quick chat with HR. Finally, there was a technical interview. The initial chat was laid-back, with the last 30 minutes being verbal technical questions for a general understanding. The technical interview involved a code review and then a feature design question. The interviews were great, respectful, and friendly. However, the HR provided ZERO feedback, even 3 weeks after the final interviews (all interviews happened within 2 weeks). It's standard practice to at least email about rejections or delays, but I didn't even get a response to my follow-up emails. I found this HR behavior unprofessional.

Full Stack Engineer
Had an initial hour-long interview with some technical questions, then a take-home technical test. Afterwards, a final substantial 2-hour interview where we went over the test, more technical questions, and I met/spoke with various team members. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and everyone was really friendly. The technical assessment was quite lengthy but it was a fun project and gave me a chance to show off my skills. James, the talent guy who coordinated everything, was very friendly and made the process stress-free.
- Can you tell me about a project you've worked on?
- Regarding a project you've worked on, can you elaborate on its architecture, design, implementation, and testing?
