There was just one interview round. Mostly they asked general questions, nothing technical. The whole thing felt casual and conversational. It was more like a friendly chat than a formal interview.

I found the role on Flexjobs.com and applied on IZEA's careers site. First, I had a screening call with Cathy Rodger, who was great. Then, I went through 3 interviews with different department members: the Controller, some team members, and the CFO. They were really open with sharing info, making it a genuine exchange, not just a checklist of questions. At every stage, they made me feel like my time was valued. Everyone was engaged and friendly. By the end, I knew enough about the company, the job, and the team to be sure this is where I wanted to work.

This company was amazing to interview with, way better than the 20+ places I've interviewed with before. Everyone seems to really like their jobs. First, I chatted with Cathy from HR who was super friendly and made me feel like she was on my side. We mostly just talked about me and my tech skills. Then, I had a Zoom call with the engineering director, who was also a great person. We discussed how they do things and their engineering philosophy, and it felt like a good fit. After that, I met with some future coworkers and we looked at the code from one of my personal projects. They made funny comments which helped me relax. Even though we ran out of time, I apparently showed them enough and got an offer a few days later. Cathy from HR called to tell me they wanted to move forward with me, and the salary was even better than we first talked about. The whole thing took about 2 weeks and was a fantastic experience.

Applied online and got a call from a recruiter about a week later for a phone screen, which went okay. A few days after that, I had an in-person interview with my potential direct supervisor. It felt like they weren't really considering me, though. We met in the cafeteria, and they only asked me like 2 questions. They didn't even want a copy of my resume when I offered it. The interviewer seemed totally uninterested in what I was saying and was kind of condescending when I tried to connect a job duty to something I did in class. It was super awkward and unprofessional. I got the rejection email later that same day.
