First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Islands Restaurants.
Server
It was a very straightforward interview process. I really enjoyed it because the team members were very friendly. Staff with a lot of experience provided training. The atmosphere was great. I was well-prepared with my references and ready to talk about my strengths and weaknesses.
- Could you tell me how many baskets one person can carry in a single hand?
Manager
The process was very detailed and organized, they were very clear about what they expected and what the company is about. The recruiter was very helpful and caring. After that, I met with a general manager and the District Manager together. They had questions and went a bit more in-depth about the job and benefits etc. Overall the process is lengthy, but it's because they just want to offer careers. I received my employment offer a few days later and I start my new career this week!
- What is your previous experience in management?
- How would you describe your management style?
Host
I walked in as a customer and inquired about a job opening. The host gave me an application to bring back the next day when the manager was in. I submitted it, and the manager said he'd be in touch. I received a call for a first interview with one of the other managers, which was nerve-wracking but had easy questions. She promised to follow up. Then, I had a second interview with a third manager who asked almost the same questions. He mentioned the first manager wanted to see me and gave me a date and time. When I arrived, he wasn't there, but another manager apologized and said they'd inform him. I got an email offering me the job with an orientation date. However, a few days before orientation, they called to say they had less staff room than anticipated and rescinded the offer. Absolutely ridiculous, I won't return.
- What did you ask about?
- Can you tell me more about yourself?
- What made you interested in this position?
Hostess
The hiring process was long because you have to meet and interview with each and every manager at the store. I went back and called probably about seven times before everything was said and done and I was hired. Interview was simple with relatively easy questions.
- Can you share an example of how you've exceeded customer expectations?
- What does excellent customer service mean to you?
