First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Islands Restaurants.
Assistant Manager
I had to drive about an hour and a half to their main office for my interview. The person interviewing me seemed unprepared and uninterested from the start. They asked some questions that only required a yes/no answer and also asked the same things multiple times. At one point, I wasn't sure what they were asking, and they got annoyed when I asked for clarification. I'd suggest this company offer some interview training. I didn't get an offer, but I would've turned one down based on how it went.
- Can you explain your effectiveness in managing labor and how you achieve it?
Manager
The process was very detailed and organized, they were very clear about what they expected and what the company is about. The recruiter was very helpful and caring. After that, I met with a general manager and the District Manager together. They had questions and went a bit more in-depth about the job and benefits etc. Overall the process is lengthy, but it's because they just want to offer careers. I received my employment offer a few days later and I start my new career this week!
- What is your previous experience in management?
- How would you describe your management style?
Manager
It was a 40-minute phone interview, then an online assessment, followed by a meeting at the corporate office in Irvine. The interview was conducted professionally. They asked a lot of questions about why I was interested in the company and how I go above and beyond for guests.
