Actuarial Analyst
So I had two interviews for two similar roles, HR was kinda unresponsible, but the interview structure was similar for both. It started with an exam, then a 3-hour interview with 3 rounds all on the same day. I think you get the job if you pass. The first round was with two senior managers, they were nice and we talked a lot about the company and products, it felt like a casual chat. The second round was with three people, one of them was sleepy and yawning but still nice, the other two were also nice. The last round was a nightmare with two people who acted like bosses, asking a lot of detailed questions about a job I had 3 years ago, repeating 'why why why' and not listening when I tried to explain. They didn't understand the software I used, and when I tried to explain they didn't pay attention, just kept digging into the question, it was torture. I knew I didn't get the job after that. It showed me how personality matters for career progression.
- Why? And how? - repeating these questions like a loop, questioning every single line on your resume and everything you said.
- Why? How? then repeat like a loop. Literally question every single line on your resume and everything you said from your mouth.
Manager
I was contacted by a recruiter about a role, which led to phone interviews and then an onsite. The onsite included questions about Statistics, building models, and managing teams, plus a presentation. The people seemed nice, and the office looked collaborative. The hiring manager even said he hoped I'd join them. However, they rejected me, saying they thought I was more "senior" and expected me to be older. I was in my early 30s and had been a manager for 2 years, so I was confused. It seemed disorganized and unprofessional, maybe because of the economy back then.
- Can you describe your approach to building teams?
- How would you go about validating models?
- What's your experience with building models?
Field Representative
I had two phone interviews first because the hiring manager is way far away. Then, I met with a Regional VP at a library since the company doesn't have many offices outside NJ. It felt kinda cheap and weird meeting in a public place like that. Honestly, I think they're just cheap. I should've known then.
- Can you walk me through your past work experience?
- Describe how you would manage certain scenarios.
- There was a written assessment you needed to complete.
Analyst
So, first I had a phone interview with two managers that went for about an hour. After that, one of the managers mentioned that HR would reach out to set up a face-to-face interview. That in-person part involved a skills test, an IQ test, and then two separate interview sessions, which took about an hour total. A few days later, they extended an offer, which I accepted.
