First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Industrial Light & Magic.
Production Engineer
I applied online, got an email asking about my citizenship status, and then set up a 45-minute phone call with a recruiter. We discussed my resume and experience. It was mostly behavioral, focusing on my teamwork experience and what I enjoyed in school.

- What do you like about your major?
- Describe the process you follow for your projects.
3D Generalist
We had some basic questions about your capabilities, how you'd engage with the role, and salary ranges. They also asked about your experience and your overall relationship with the company. The interviewer had a checklist that they showed me to give a general idea of what the interview would cover. Then, we were able to go off-script and have a more natural conversation about the expectations and realities of the role.
- Why did you choose to apply to our company?
Technical Trainer
So I had four interviews with ILM, and the people I spoke with were all great and supportive. But the system and what happened after the interviews? Huge negative. For two months, almost three, the recruiting officer has been gaslighting me. The pattern is: 'We're still interviewing other candidates, I'll set up a meeting and get you a reply this week.' Then, they never get back to me unless I ping them the next week. If ILM Sydney can't decide if they want to hire someone after two months and four interviews, and they're not even willing to just say no or that they don't have the capacity for you, I don't know what to say. It's unheard of, just awful. Imagine the company if this is the level of transparency from a recruiter before you even start.
- Could you share some common interview questions you'd find online?
- What are some questions about being a good person?
- Do they value genuine passion?
Senior Recruiter
After submitting my CV, I got a super quick response and the first interview was scheduled the same day. I was really impressed with how fast they were. However, the ATS system was a bit of a pain, making me re-enter all the info from my CV, which I think might turn some people off. The first interview was with the internal recruiter and lasted about 30 minutes. They let me know the next day that my application wouldn't be moving forward.

- What salary are you looking for?
- When can you be available to start?
