Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Industrial Light & Magic.
Technical Director
Had a phone interview first to make sure I understood the role and talked about salary. Then a Zoom interview where I talked about myself and how I solve problems. The final Zoom interview was about time management and how I'd troubleshoot artist issues.
- How do you handle your time and multiple deadlines?
- How do you manage time and competing deadlines?
Technical Director
I had a 45min video call after a recruiter reached out. The interviewer spent a good chunk of time explaining the company and pipeline. I also got to connect points from my own experience and knowledge to what they were talking about.
- Can you tell me about your past work experience?
- What are some things you've accomplished and learned from your previous roles?
Technical Director
It went pretty fast, about a month from the first interview to starting work. I had one main phone interview with the production supervisors and talked to the recruiter a couple of times. They mainly asked about my reel, resume, and experience with things listed in the job description.
- Be aware that long-time ILM employees might use internal jargon that can cause misunderstandings; what seems elaborate or technically complex to you might be perceived as trivial or something else entirely at ILM based on naming conventions.
