Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Industrial Light & Magic.
Production Assistant
The interviewer was really nice and made me feel at ease, even though it was just the first step. They asked a lot of questions, and spent a good amount of time talking about how awesome the company is. I didn't move on in the process, but they made sure to keep me updated over the following weeks.
- Could you start by telling me something about yourself?
Production Assistant
I got a call from a senior recruiter to chat about what I'm interested in and my skills. Later, when a job opened up, I met with the Department Manager and Production Management Coordinator. A few weeks after that, I had a second interview with the Producer and Production Manager. It was a good process where we talked about my past experience, how I'd handle certain situations, and why I want to work at ILM. I felt ready for it, and everyone I met was really positive and nice. The only thing was, it took about a month and a half to hear back after the interview. Luckily, I got the offer, but there wasn't much communication in between.
- If you encountered George Lucas in the building, what would be your course of action?
Production Assistant
I applied for one job but they interviewed me for a different one. I had a phone interview two weeks after applying. They asked basic questions like "why do you want to work here" and "what experience do you have." It was pretty easy. They were also clear about the job duties, pay, and benefits, which I appreciated. They seemed to like me and wanted to move me to the next stage, but then nothing happened. I followed up for six weeks via calls and emails, but only heard back maybe once or twice. It was really frustrating. It’s one thing to be rejected, but to be left hanging like that is not ideal.
