First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HomeStar Remodeling.
Scheduling Coordinator
The interview process is pretty decisive and strict. After applying and doing a thorough company review, I got a call about a week later to set up my first interview. Upon arrival, I took a personality test, and then the interviewer reviewed my results and explained their use in role placement. While you might apply for one position, they may discuss a different role with you. They will inquire about your reliable transportation, future aspirations, and how you perceive this job as a good fit, along with the reasons for leaving your previous employment. This demonstrates their interest in ensuring a good match. It's important to ask any questions you have, as they will be answered. If you pass this initial interview, you'll be contacted to schedule a subsequent interview with a higher-up, who will ask more challenging questions regarding your drive, motivation, and potential contributions. Following this, you might have another interview or receive a call informing you of your hire.
- What are your goals for working at Homestar Remodeling?
Sales Representative
I applied online and got a call about 30 minutes later. An interview was scheduled for the next day. They were very responsive and quick to move things along. The interview was informal, the interviewer didn't introduce himself and gave me a personality test to fill out before our conversation. It was hard to get a clear idea of the job's scope. The position I applied for was not the position I was offered. They didn't mention the offered position until I asked. To my understanding, you have to work your way up. The offered position was Marketing, which I understood to be a door-to-door role, but they explained you could move up quickly as you learned and performed well. The questions asked were standard. Their pay structure (base plus commission) made it hard to estimate earnings. The offered position had a base salary of $400/week with low commission on appointments set ($20 each, increasing if you set more than 3 a day). Commission was higher ($150 each) on appointments that the customer kept, after the first one per week, with most people averaging 4. There were other bonus opportunities. Standard benefits were offered.
- What's your approach to handling rejection?
- How do you feel about changes in your work environment?
Office Manager
My first interview was with Janelle. She made me feel comfortable and asked about my experience in a fun way, while still showing the seriousness and professionalism of the business. Then I met Anton, one of the owners, for a more reciprocal interview. He was professional and kind, asking about my past jobs and skills. He explained the company, Homestar, and the job expectations. Afterwards, Austin gave me more details about the role and highlighted the positive, family-like work environment, emphasizing the support system and positive atmosphere. He said, 'You wake up actually excited to go to work, cause everyone there makes your day'. It was a great experience meeting them all.
- What would your previous manager say about you?
Marketing
The first day of my interview, I spoke with the recruiter. He was pretty casual and definitely made the interview feel very relaxed which i believed was great. He pretty much explained the position of the job and what I'd be doing and why the company exists. He went over the history of the company and the owners. I had to come back the next day because the owner wasn't there. The owner was also very great to speak with, but he asked more of the serious questions.
