I interviewed for the Sales Analyst position at Herc Rentals. The job posting highlighted duties such as sales reporting, inputting data into Salesforce, auditing accounts, and developing sales strategies, but didn't mention specific tools like SQL or Qlik Sense. During the initial phone call, I was asked about my background with SQL and BI tools like Qlik. This was unexpected as these tools weren't mentioned in the job description, leading me to suspect the recruiter might have been screening me for a different role, perhaps the Business Intelligence Developer position I saw advertised later. If this were the case, I wish there had been more openness about the role and if I was being considered for it. The recruiter was also a bit late for our scheduled call without letting me know. Additionally, the stated salary range for the job, topping out around 70K, seemed a bit low for what appeared to be a senior-level position involving cross-functional duties. My suggestion to management is to be upfront in job postings about all the tools and platforms candidates are expected to use. If candidates are being considered for multiple roles, communicate this clearly and ask about their interest.

The interview process was pretty straightforward. It started with a recruiter call, followed by a Zoom interview. They asked pretty standard questions. Throughout the interview, I talked about my interests, my current role, and what I'd like to do next. At the end, they basically told me what they were looking for, which wasn't something I wanted to do right away. There also seemed to be a bit of confusion about hours, pay, and scheduling. It felt like there were some differences in what the recruiter said versus what the interviewers discussed regarding my interests and pay.

The hiring journey kicked off with an online application. It took about a month for the recruiter to reach out. After that, things went smoothly. The initial phone screen and subsequent chats with the hiring managers were relaxed and conversational, not like typical high-pressure interviews. This approach made it easy to build rapport professionally and personally. An offer came through within days of the phone interviews. Once accepted, the recruiter was super helpful and answered all my questions. Honestly, it was the best hiring experience I've had, and the recruiter was outstanding!

The interview started fine with the Supervisors, but then got weird when the VP came in. He was really harsh about me not having a college degree, even though it was optional, and asked some really personal stuff. Like why I lived with my parents and why I changed career paths before, even though I was qualified. It was way more stressful than other interviews, and the first person even told me to grab a drink after. The whole thing was 45 mins, but like 20 mins was just getting torn down. Honestly, I don't think I could work for someone like that.
