Fulfillment Manager
The interview process was straightforward. I spoke with the recruiter, who asked thoughtful questions, but I’ll admit it wasn’t my strongest performance. In hindsight, I should have rescheduled to give myself the space to show up at my best. Instead, I pushed through and unfortunately, that worked against me.
- Can you tell me about the KPIs you tracked in your previous position?
Team Manager
It was a pretty conversational interview, with standard questions. They asked about my past experience, how I handle escalations, if I can handle a fast-paced environment, and to talk about a difficult situation in a past job and how I handled it. Also asked why I'm leaving my previous job.
- Can you share your past job experience, particularly with escalation resolution?
- Tell me about a time you had to handle an escalation.
- Are you comfortable working in a fast-paced environment?
Senior Data Engineer
Started with a recruiter chat. Then a call with the hiring manager about the job and my background. Next was a virtual power day with two architects for a mix of behavioral and technical interviews. After that, there was a SQL/python test on a shared Google sheet with around 10-12 questions, which felt pretty rushed and difficult to complete in the given time. The very last step was a final behavioral interview with the hiring manager. Two days later, I got a standard email saying I wasn't selected, and unfortunately, they don't provide any specific feedback, which was disappointing given the time invested.
- When designing a new data pipeline, what factors would you take into account?
Staff Accountant
First, there was a phone interview with the Talent Manager. Then, a phone interview with the Hiring Manager. Finally, there were in-person interviews with the Talent Manager, another Staff Accountant on the team, the Hiring Manager, the Controller, and the CFO. The whole thing took several hours. It was pretty simple: Talent Manager called for the first interview, and after each step, they'd let me know via phone and email about the next steps and schedule the next interview. The Talent Manager was nice and informative. The team (Hiring Manager, Controller, and Staff Accountant) seemed good at their jobs and professional, and they had questions ready for me. They seemed like a solid group to work with. The last interview was with the CFO in person. This interview went totally differently and was unprofessional. Like the others, she asked about my background and experience. But then she started asking these pointed, presumptuous questions, or questions that didn't seem to matter for the job or my skills. For example, she asked about my current company's accounting/finance reporting structure and why people were leaving, implying my company was doing poorly and that's why I was looking. She even asked about my undergrad GPA, even though I had almost 5 years of experience and had graduated years ago. She even asked a random political question, which seemed like an attempt to find out my political party. It had nothing to do with the job or my accounting experience, and she didn't seem to care about my qualifications. It was all really confusing. I got an automated, generic email about a week later saying I didn't get an offer. The email said they don't give feedback, which is weird and not helpful for improving your job search. It was a total opposite from the beginning of the process, where they were communicative and friendly. This might be unusual, but it was definitely interesting and tells you something about their culture. How can a candidate get to the final interview stage and then have a top executive act like that?
- Can you tell me why you applied?
- What's the current status of your CPA licensure?
- Do you have any technical accounting questions?
