First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Happy Money.
Senior Software Engineer
Started with an initial phone interview with a Senior Software Engineer. Then, I got invited for an in-person interview, which they said would be about 4-6 hours long. Roughly 8 people interviewed me, coming in pairs every 30 minutes or so. After that, I was given a written code challenge where I had to write the code with a pen on paper and also explain how it would be tested. This written test was about 5 pages and I had about 45 minutes to finish it. Lastly, I had another challenge on a whiteboard. They gave me a quick tour after everything was done. I felt confident and within a few days, the recruiter told me they were preparing a contract to hire offer, which I was good with. I filled out a lot of paperwork to get ready for the hire process. Then a few days later, they pulled the offer and didn't move forward with no real reason why. I later found out it was because they didn't want to pay the recruiter fees. What a waste of my time. At the time I applied, this was a highly rated company. I was excited to join. BUT, I am so thankful that I got passed on because this place looks like it went downhill fast. The reviews explain the downfall. My initial offer and then pulled offer now makes sense for management that isn't sure what they want to do, or if they even have the funds to continue operating if they didn't want to pay recruiter fees.
- Asked various questions about data structures, algorithms, best practices, and basic computer science topics.
- Given a coding challenge to write out on paper.
- Asked to describe how the code would be tested.
Software Engineer
It was a pretty typical software engineering interview process, a mix of behavioral questions and algorithm challenges. Everyone I met was really nice and friendly, making it a great experience overall. The entire process, from the initial phone screen to getting the offer, wrapped up in about two weeks.
- Can you describe a time you had a conflict with a coworker and how you handled it?
Software Engineer
Recruiter was unable to answer if the role was open due to business growth. Be aware that they've had layoffs recently and don't give straight answers. Ask about their business model since they might shut down any segment of their operations at any time.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Could you explain your business model?
