First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Georgetown University.
Financial Analyst
I applied and went through a recruiting agency for this role. The interviews themselves went pretty well, though I was a bit nervous. They mentioned good benefits, like mostly free education through Georgetown. However, the pay was lower than I expected, and while the job was remote, it required living in the DC area, and I was looking for a hybrid setup.
- Could you walk me through your experience with running reports?

Policy Analyst
So I applied through the website and the professor reached out to schedule a quick phone call. Then, I went on campus for an in-person interview about a week later. That interview was about an hour long, and they asked me generally about my research experience and how it could relate to their research. They offered me the position on the spot, and I communicated my acceptance via email later on.
- Can you tell me about your experience with qualitative research, specifically regarding creating interview guides or conducting outreach?
Research Officer
It was a multi-stage interview. The first stage went well. However, the second stage revealed some disorganization within the department. My scheduled interviewer was not in the office, so I ended up being interviewed by a colleague while the original interviewer joined by phone.
- Can you describe a challenge encountered during the implementation of a study and explain how you managed it?
Marketing Communications Manager
The interview process for this comms manager role was pretty straightforward, focusing on my experience and what I bring to the table. First, they had me talk about my background with digital multimedia campaigns. I made sure to mention projects where I handled video production, social media pushes, and tracked engagement data. I really focused on how successful previous campaigns were, hitting view count targets, growing follower numbers, and improving audience sentiment with good multimedia content. Then, we went over my experience writing ad copy, website content, and presentation scripts. I explained how I craft messages for different audiences based on market research and past results. I gave examples of taglines, digital ads, and presentation stories from previous jobs and the positive feedback I got. They also asked about working with other teams. I discussed being on committees with people from tech, sales, product design, and PR to make sure campaign messages and strategy were aligned. I talked about team projects where I worked with different people to hit marketing goals through smart comms planning and content distribution. In short, I stressed my experience leading integrated comms campaigns across digital channels and my skill in creating quality copy for different groups. I backed this up with numbers on campaign successes and gave props to my collaborators in other departments. The interviewer seemed happy with my answers and how prepared I was. It was a clear way to check if I had the right qualifications for this communications manager job.
- Can you share an example of a campaign you worked on and its outcome?
