First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Geisinger.
Service Line Specialist
Geisinger is fairly quick with responding to applicants, and that is the only pro. I had 3 interviews over 2 months (unnecessary). My first three interviews were great. The first interview was with leadership. Second interview was with 2 team members. Last interview was with a staff member of that service line and senior leadership. My first two interviews were great. The last interview I knew was terrible because the senior leadership had a very, condescending high school mean girl vibe. Instead of utilizing my 16 years of healthcare experience as a strength, she would try to call out the broader, less significant, gaps in my work that would not hinder me doing this job well. The team member also sat there dead panned and ignoring what i was saying. The only question the team member asked me was "What is the best mistake you've ever made." - When you work in risk adjustment with cancer patients, you can't afford to make mistakes, let alone a mistake that somehow is a benefit. If you need quality employees, asking trick questions as a way to weed out candidates is odd. I've interviewed for 3 positions within Geisinger in the last year. The average pay is $15-$17 an hour, for someone like me with 16 years experience and a masters degree.
- Tell me about the best mistake you've made.
- How is your relationship with other departments, particularly physicians?
Cook
We are looking for candidates who have the skills, experience, and education to excel in the position, as well as perform well in the kitchen. You must be able to read tickets for orders. I've been in the kitchen for over 30 years, so I know what we're looking for.
- Tell me about your experience.
- What is your educational background?
- What skills do you bring to the table?
Patient Contact Specialist
It was a smooth interview, lasted about an hour. They explained the job duties and the kinds of calls I would be receiving for the majority of the time. It also included questions about my strengths, weaknesses, and future career goals.
- Can you tell me about a strength you possess?
- What's a weakness of yours?
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
ER Technician
I met with the department management, and it was a pretty straightforward and open process. The person interviewing me was nice and asked me a bunch of questions about my past work, what I'm good at, and how I deal with stuff when it comes up at work. We also chatted about my experience before and how it fits with this job.
- What are your aspirations for this position and your future career?
- Could you describe your background?
- What would you consider your key strengths?
