I applied and then got scheduled for an interview. I went to the shop and had a pretty straightforward chat with the manager in the back. The manager was really nice, and it was a simple process. I didn't hear back about whether I got the job or not, so I just figured I didn't get it because nobody called.
- Which video game character would you choose to be?
- What's the most recent game you've played?
SEO Executive
It was a pretty straightforward interview process with 3 steps. First, I spoke with the Recruitment Officer. Then, I had an interview with the Marketing team. Finally, there was one last interview where I had to give a presentation to show what I can do.
- Do you like gaming? If yes, what's your favorite game?

The interview process wasn't very efficient for this temporary, 4-hour contract position. There was a group interview with about 20 people, and some were told it was a group interview beforehand, but I expected a one-to-one with a manager. There wasn't a second interview to narrow down candidates. We were split into two groups for two sales-focused tasks. The first task involved presenting a chosen game in pairs after 5 minutes of research, to check co-operation. The second task was an impromptu 'sell me this item' challenge, where I had to sell a cardboard box. After that, there was a short 5-10 minute chat with the store manager about my favorite game, why I want to work there, my current duties, and why I'm leaving. I felt this part was pointless due to its brevity and few questions. It would have been better to spread the interviews over days. I wore a formal suit, but many others wore smart casual clothes like jackets and jeans, making me feel out of place. I'd suggest smart casual (button-up shirt/blouse with black jeans). I'm a casual gamer and I don't think I was the right fit for the role or it for me. I haven't heard back and don't expect an offer.
- Tell me about your main duties in your current job.
- What are your reasons for leaving your current employment?
- Which game is your favourite and what do you like about it?
Sales Assistant
The interview was a group session with about 12 people. First, we were welcomed and had to introduce ourselves to the whole group, answering questions from a sheet they gave us. Don't worry if speaking in front of people is tough, everyone else is in the same situation; if you're into gaming, you'll do fine. For the next part, we picked a game from the store (it's a good idea to pick one you know well), then got paired up to try and sell that game to each other as if one was a customer. The staff watched us closely during this, so just stay calm and show your enthusiasm for the game, as they're looking for that. The last part involved splitting into three teams: 'Playstation 4', 'Xbox One', and 'Nintendo Switch'. Each team had to create a radio advert to present to the staff and the other groups. It's pretty straightforward; all the information you need is available in and around the store. Just be calm and confident when presenting. That wrapped up the interview, and we were asked if we had any questions. My tip is to ask as many as you can, as it shows you're really interested in the job.
- What is your current occupation or educational status?
- Share an interesting detail about yourself.
- Which gaming console do you prefer and elaborate on your reasons?
