Interviews normally happen just to have a record of paperwork. Management often hires friends and family, and sometimes they don't even read cvs. This is just to keep a paper trail to cover their backs.

I applied for two different game store jobs and the interview took about an hour. It was a group interview with 9-12 people in it. There were 3 tasks. First, we went round in a circle and introduced ourselves. Second, we had to sell a random item they gave us. Lastly, we were put into groups to sell either a playstation, xbox or Nintendo. My advice is to do research on every console from the game website, from the bundles to the prices. Also, when you are selling something, try to be passionate about it. They look for that kind of thing in people they hire. It's key that you always give them eye contact. If you manage to do that, you should be successful.

There were six of us who attended the interview with one no-show, and the process lasted about an hour. We went to the store after-hours and we were let in by the store manager who seemed really friendly and chatty. We met a few other staff who seemed the same. We were asked basic interview questions. Then we were put into two groups of three, team PS4 and team Xbox One and we took turns selling a product to a member of staff in a role playing game. He then gave us feedback on our skills, which was helpful. Most of us made a couple of mistakes because of nerves but the atmosphere was laid back and not stressful. Then we were put into teams of two and had to quickly come up with a 30 second radio advert focusing on a new bundle deal. We needed to include a console, a physical product, and a digital product. When we were presenting, the guy I was paired with got nervous and had trouble getting his words out so I encouraged him and we ended up doing a good job. It was a great interview overall, everyone who attended seemed friendly and chatty and the store manager commented at the end that this was one of the better group interviews he'd held. It was a difficult process personally because it was my first group interview, but I was told I got the position the next day so I must have done something right! I'd recommend going in there with confidence and a smile on your face. Be friendly, ask (good) questions, be polite and listen to everybody. Don't be quiet and don't let the nerves show, just be calm and do your best. Don't show off, just be yourself, and if the staff are cracking jokes, play along.
