Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GAME Digital.
Sales Associate
I was invited to an "interview" but what followed was more of a two and a half hour lecture by the manager about their customer service experience. They did discuss sales and Game a lot, but also included irrelevant topics like alleged predatory pricing by CeX and Supermarkets. The manager was nice and passionate, which was respectable, but couldn't conduct a proper interview. They were honest about the role, stating that GAME doesn't offer full hours and the position might not extend past Christmas. Around ten of us were in a store room, asked only about three questions total. No one was separated, so many weren't vocal enough as they weren't asked individually. If you plan to apply (which I wouldn't recommend now that I know more about the company), be very outspoken and confident. Knowing a lot about gaming helps, as does knowing about their Elite Card and Insurance Plan. However, considering the company's history and future, applying elsewhere would be better. Overall, the staff were great and passionate, but the interview experience was poor, and the company and its prospects are unstable.
- Can you tell me about a time you felt proud in your previous job?
- Could you try to sell me this Console, or perhaps the Elite card and Insurance plan?
Sales Associate
We had a group interview with 8 people where we discussed various video games and their selling points. We also talked about what we thought the job would involve, and everyone had to give a short talk about their favorite game and persuade others to buy it. This was followed by a role-play scenario with the manager on the shop floor where we had to sell items.
- How would you approach selling a console to a family with a mother and three children?
Sales Associate
It was pretty easy. I mostly just had to talk about the games I like, my previous jobs, and my sales experience. There were a few other things too, but nothing too serious. If you can hold a conversation, you'll be fine.
- Do you play games?
- Are you able to sell products, specifically games?
