First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fleetio.
Account Executive
My experience with Fleetio's recruiting team was frustrating and disappointing. Communication was inconsistent, timelines kept shifting, and it was clear there was a lack of coordination between team members. At one point, I received conflicting information from different recruiters, and follow-ups went unanswered. If this is how candidates are treated during the hiring process, it raises serious concerns about internal alignment and leadership standards. In a world where AI is streamlining so many workflows, basic human communication shouldn't be the part that's failing.

Senior Site Reliability Engineer
The interview process started with a recruiter chat where we talked about my background and career goals. Then I spoke with the hiring manager, who seemed nice but occasionally interrupted me, though I might have been talking too much about my experience. After that, there was a take-home assessment where I had to design an application's infrastructure and justify my decisions. I was offered a team interview and an executive interview, but I turned them down. I decided to stop the process after looking at the benefits: only 4 weeks of leave for non-birthing parents compared to 12 weeks for birthing parents, and a starting PTO of 20 days, which feels a bit low for IT roles. The parental leave difference also seemed potentially discriminatory. I think Fleetio should improve their parental leave policy, especially since my state offers 12 weeks.

Engineering Manager
I applied for a job posting I saw on Google. About halfway through the application I almost gave up because their resume importer wasn't working and they asked for essays on topics like why I want to work there and what makes me special. I decided to take a chance based on their company review scores. About a week later, a recruiter named Ethan from Fleetio scheduled a screening call. It was pretty standard and they were nice, but they couldn't answer a few questions I'd expect a recruiter to know. They also said I'd hear about next steps in a day or two, but it took a full week. I did hear back eventually and was asked to schedule a call with the hiring manager. I thought I absolutely crushed this round. The call went twice as long as scheduled, with the hiring manager doing most of the talking. I got the feeling they were out of their depth and that the role would be filling some of their own gaps. They did tell me at the end that I had everything they were looking for and to expect round three instructions later that day or the next, even giving me a heads-up on what to prepare. I never heard from Fleetio again. A week after talking to the hiring manager, I sent a polite follow-up. After another two weeks, I sent another. Both were ignored. I didn't even get a rejection email.

The interview process with Fleetio was a wonderful experience. All of the conversations I had were extremely enjoyable. This communication with Ethan, the recruiter, was top notch. He kept you in the loop the entire process and was very timely. While I ended up taking another offer that met more of my personal and long term needs, Fleetio seems like a really great company. I’d highly reccomend anyone seeing this to go apply to any of their open roles.
