First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Flashbay.
Sales Executive
I had a phone interview with the company. It was mainly about them explaining the role, the company, and their non-existent competitors. When I asked about their biggest competitors, the interviewer seemed unsure. The job was for sales of personalized merchandise. I felt my background in Sales and Marketing for personalized gifts was a good fit. The interviewer's only response was that since they make their own products, they have no competition. I think in a market where personalized USBs are everywhere, price is key, not design. The interview took 45 minutes, mostly because of my questions, and they only asked about my sales experience. Given my background in personalized gifts for online retail, a talent acquisition specialist would have been interested in learning more. I felt mixed about it, but ultimately got rejected for not matching their requirements with my experience. I wouldn't recommend it; the interview felt like a checklist and they weren't genuinely interested in the candidate or their background.
- Could you describe your sales experience?
- What are your current earnings and total commission?
Intern
I reached out to Flashbay through their website's contact email after learning about them from a past collaboration with a top PR agency. I was pleasantly surprised by their quick response within two days, as often emails like that go unanswered. When I arrived for my internship interview, I was immediately welcomed warmly. They offered me drinks and water. My initial impression of the office was good and professional, and as I spent more time there, I found my first impressions to be accurate, especially regarding the work ethic and culture.
- Could you share instances where you showed adaptability and reacted to unforeseen circumstances?
Inside Sales Representative
A recruiter reached out to set up a phone call with Flashbay. The phone interview wasn't really an interview, it was mostly about the company. After that, I was invited for an in-person interview. This second interview felt more like an interrogation than a conversation. It seemed like the company really just wants to know if you can be brainwashed into their sales techniques. They post monthly sales figures publicly, so you'll know if you're not performing well.
- Are you capable of adhering to strict guidelines for selling our product?
Sales Account Manager
I applied to Flashbay because I was interested in making technology accessible. The interview process started with a warm welcome and a cup of tea from the receptionist upon arrival at the office. I didn't have to wait long, just two to three minutes, before the interview began. I was asked about how USB drives could be used for promotional purposes. While I could think of many uses, I hadn't considered preloading a company's brochure and catalog onto the drive. The interview seemed to involve discussing these ideas.
- What do you feel you gained most from your university education?
