& Process

Went through an online interview via Seek. They asked me a bunch of technical questions about how to build quality software. This included building HAL and drivers. I was also tested on LV functions and GOOP. It involved understanding mechanical fixtures and writing code for LabVIEW Rio and FPGA (LV Real Time).

First, there was a quick 30-minute phone screen. Then, I had half a day of on-site interviews where they asked me about impedance matching, passive high frequency components, high frequency lab equipment and probes, and high frequency interconnect design.

I got a call from the Recruiter and then the Hiring Manager. They set up an on-site interview for a week later. The whole thing took about 10 days. It was a pretty standard process, like 5-6 rounds, each about 30 minutes, with directors, hiring managers, and potential teammates. Overall, the interview felt easy. Most questions were based on my resume, and they asked some behavioral stuff too, but it was mostly technical. It was pretty friendly compared to other Silicon Valley companies. They communicated well and clearly explained the job duties. They even showed the benefits during the interview. After the interview, the recruiter asked for references and background check info. Then, nothing for like a month and a half. I called the recruiter and they said the hiring manager hadn't decided yet. Then they told me they went with someone else.

I had a bad phone interview today. The hiring manager was 25 minutes late. When he finally called, he asked me where he should start with technical questions. It seemed like he hadn't read my resume or even looked at it before the call. After I told him my specialty, he asked a question that wasn't really related to my background. I had to tell him again what I've worked on before he asked some relevant questions about electronics, optics, and fiber optic communications fundamentals. The call was only 20 minutes and he sounded unfriendly the whole time. Right after I hung up, the recruiter messaged me saying they decided to move forward with other candidates. I'm not upset.
