First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dealertrack by Cox Automotive.
Sales Manager
The recruiters were quick to get in touch and made sure I knew what to expect all the way through. The people I spoke with were nice, knew their stuff, and seemed genuinely curious about how my skills would fit the job. They asked some good questions that actually felt like what the job would be like day-to-day. I liked that they were upfront and kept me in the loop, which made the whole thing feel good and engaging. It really felt like they cared about my time and what I could bring to the company.
- What are your strategies for handling customer objections?
Image Interpreter
So after you apply, they look at your resume to see if you're a good fit. Then, a recruiter will call you for like 15-30 minutes to chat about your background, if you're interested, what you want salary-wise, and other details. They might ask a few easy questions about your experience or general behavior. Sometimes, they'll give you a test, maybe coding, SQL, or data modeling, to do in a few days.
- What do you envision your career path to be?
Software Test Engineer
I talked to a recruiter at a career fair and then an HR person called me for a phone screen. They set up an interview with the hiring manager. I interviewed with two people who asked me a technical question, and then we talked about my resume and testing tools. It seemed like they wanted manual testing, which I wasn't thrilled about. The HR person then made a low-ball offer and wasn't prepared to negotiate when I asked for more. She tried to get me to commit immediately, but I asked for a week. A week later, she gave a better, but still not competitive, offer. I declined because another job paid more and was a better fit. The team sounded good, the work sounded boring (it was an internship though), and the pay wasn't competitive.
- Could you write a sorting algorithm?
Client Service Specialist
I applied for a Client Service Specialist job that requires 50% travel. The hiring process felt too long and drawn out. There was a full week between each interview. I was interviewed 3 times before they rejected me. I'm not sure what happened, but I wonder if it was discrimination. During my second interview with Angelina, she kept asking if my family was okay with how much I'd be traveling and mentioned that the job is usually for single, recent college grads. It was the first time I felt my age was a factor in getting a job. Angelina also said, 'As long as we like you, you will continue with the interview process.' I guess they didn't like me. I thought that was unprofessional and preferred wording like, 'If we feel you're a good fit, we'll continue the process.' It's still frustrating; I was hopeful for 3 weeks that I'd get the job.
- What are your 5-year career goals?
- Is your family supportive of the travel requirements for this role?
- Do you think you are a good fit for a role typically held by single, recent college graduates?
