First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coventry First.
Financial Analyst
So, I first connected with them at a career fair at my school, and that led to an interview. The interview itself was in-person and felt super long, like 5 hours easily. I met with three people from the team and had to do three assessments: one where I had to reconcile and differentiate numbers in two columns, a basic math test, and then a personality assessment. After that, I got to talk to the CFO directly before they made a final decision. I appreciated that it was very technical, but man, it took forever.
- Can you tell me about your salary expectations?
- Could you describe your resume?
Staff Accountant and Contract Analyst
I applied through a recruiter and an interview was set up that lasted 2 hours. The first part was a basic math and grammar test. Then, I interviewed with the VP of Accounting and VP of Contract Analysis. They mainly discussed the company and their roles, asking straightforward questions. I felt pretty good about my test answers and the interview. The next day, I heard back that I wouldn't be offered the job because my test scores weren't up to their standards, even though the interview feedback was positive. It's kind of hard to believe, having just graduated with a 3.8 GPA, that I didn't pass the test, but I guess that's what they're saying since they don't share scores or how many were missed.
- Do you know what a contract analyst does?
- Which class did you like the most in college?
- Which class did you like the least in college?
Managing Director
I met with two people at their headquarters, which is in a really out-of-the-way spot about 30 minutes west of Philly. The vibe there felt like people work super long hours and are pretty unhappy. I had to do a bunch of tests – math, behavioral, grammar, the works. After about three hours, I realized this company just wasn't for me. It seems like they're focused on targeting the elderly to sell them life insurance, and they've got this massive $1.5 billion lawsuit with AIG, which really tells you something about their business practices.
- Tell me about how competitive you are.

Analyst
They made me wait two weeks to even get to the interview process. Then they had me sit in the interview room for half-an-hour because they got the time and scheduling messed up. The lady was dull and only spoke with me for 15 mins even though I showed great enthusiasm for the position. It's been two weeks later and I still haven't gotten a call or any feedback from the interview. This company is a disorganized mess, with the HR skills of an 18th century factory.
- How would you respond if an insurance company representative refused to disclose information needed to valuate a policy due to confidentiality?
