First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coventry First.
Analyst
Before the interview, I had to take a math and verbal skills test. They were both paper tests, about two to three pages long, and no calculators were allowed. The math test had stuff like long multiplication and division, converting percentages to fractions, compound interest, finishing number series, and comparing lists to find errors. The verbal test was like the SATs, where you had to match a word to the closest meaning out of four options. After that, I had a formal interview that mainly focused on my resume and how my skills would be a good fit. The only weird question was about how I'd handle a confidentiality issue when trying to get policy information. The recruiter said the interview went well, but I didn't get an offer because of my math test score. I thought it was a ridiculous screening process since I have a finance degree and am studying for the CFA, so I know way more math than that. It's just been a while since I've done basic math without Excel or a financial calculator. If you're interviewing with Coventry First for an analyst role, definitely research their business (secondary life insurance market) and brush up on basic math on kahnacademy.org.
- How would you respond if you were trying to get policy information from another insurance company and they refused due to confidentiality?
Analyst
They made me wait two weeks to even get to the interview process. Then they had me sit in the interview room for half-an-hour because they got the time and scheduling messed up. The lady was dull and only spoke with me for 15 mins even though I showed great enthusiasm for the position. It's been two weeks later and I still haven't gotten a call or any feedback from the interview. This company is a disorganized mess, with the HR skills of an 18th century factory.
- How would you respond if an insurance company representative refused to disclose information needed to valuate a policy due to confidentiality?
Analyst
I was interviewed with 2 tests, one a math/logistics and verbal/grammar test and the other a personality test, followed by a one on one interview. I was notified the next day that I was not a good fit for the company based on the personality test.
- What are your career aspirations for the next 5 years?
