First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cottingham & Butler.
Intern
The people I met were all super nice and easy to chat with. I felt like there were quite a few interviews though (4), which made the whole thing feel a bit long. While it's a competitive role, the pay wasn't really up to par with what other companies in this industry offer, in my view.
- Can you share three of your key attributes and give examples of how you've shown them in your work?
Account Executive
The whole process was really smooth and efficient. Everything was scheduled and handled quickly, including any questions or concerns I had. Although I didn't get the job in the end, I'd definitely consider reapplying if a similar role opens up.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully navigated a difficult situation?
Software Engineer
The interview process had three steps: first, a basic online test with about 50 simple questions covering things like pattern recognition and word opposites. Next, there was an HR screening. Finally, a Teams interview took place with the HR person and the hiring manager. The hiring manager seemed unprepared, showing up late and talking for most of the time, even sharing anecdotes about firing people and a situation where someone resigned after being told directly about their termination.
- Can you tell me your current location?
- Do you prefer to work remotely or in the office?
Executive Assistant
So I sent my resume in and they had me take The Wonderlic test online. Then I had a phone interview. The person I spoke with said the job I applied for was taken, but she thought I might be a fit for other roles they had open. They said they'd look into it and get back to me. I felt pretty good about it. Then I got an email saying they reviewed my application but didn't have a perfect fit right now, but they'd keep my resume for future opportunities. I followed up after two months, no response. Two months after that, I sent another email and they said they weren't moving forward with current positions. Honestly, it's unprofessional to give people hope on the phone and in emails when you don't plan to hire them. If this is how they treat people, it's probably not a good place to work anyway.
- They asked about my interests and where I thought I would fit in.
- They asked me where I thought I would be a good fit.
