First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Convene.
People Team Member
It was a drawn-out process. I started with a call with HR/TA, and then had weekly interviews with different team members. These weren’t formal interviews, but more like casual, aimless chats. The team seemed unsure of what they wanted or the direction they were heading. They also couldn't specify the number of steps in the hiring process, which wasn't a good sign. Despite the informal chats going okay, I got a standard, automated rejection email after waiting nine days for feedback. Generally, the company felt disorganized, and the hiring process dragged on because of internal confusion and a lack of clear direction. My experience is quite similar to some of the reviews below.
- Could you share a little about your background?
Event Production Manager
I had an initial chat with the Talent Acquisition Business Partner, then went through three more interviews. Two were virtual, and one was in person so I could see the venue and space. I heard back a week after the last interview. Everything was quick, including scheduling. The whole process took a month from first contact to hearing back.
- How would you manage a client's initial intake process?
Sales
I felt strung along by the hiring process. It started off well with an initial call with HR. Then, each week, I had separate interviews with different people from the company. I was initially told there would be 3 interviews in total, but they added a fourth one. After that fourth interview, HR asked for three professional references, which I thought was a great sign! I waited and waited. As each day passed, I got more worried and started to feel like it was a mind game. I sent two follow-up emails but received no response. Finally, I got a call saying they decided to go in a different direction. It was really upsetting because it felt so promising.
- Do you possess a Rolodex of connections?
Operations
I applied online and followed up with the representative I met at the career fair. Within a few weeks of applying I was invited to an interview day in a NY location. I arrived to find many other candidates and the process was "round robin" style. I liked that we got to speak with different faces of the company, but I did not love that all the candidate's interviewers varied. It made me nervous about whether or not the person interviewing me was going to impact my job offer. This was followed by an interactive activity with our fellow intern interviewees. We were given a task and had to incorporate Convene values and its concept into the skit. It was quite enjoyable and interacting so closely with the other interns took a lot of the competitive pressure off of the process.
- Can you tell me which letter of the Convene acronym you embody and explain why?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle a difficult client and how you managed it.
- Share an experience of working in a team where things didn't go as planned.
