First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Convene.
Intern
So, a group of us went to the New York office for these "round robbin" style interviews. We had to do this creative exercise to show how we work in a team. Afterwards, they told everyone they needed more time to decide who they were hiring. But then, they came back and said they actually had a budget issue and couldn't hire any of us. It felt pretty unfair since we all traveled to New York for it, and it also seemed unprofessional that this even happened.
- Can you tell me the four pillars of our company?
Intern
I applied online and got referred by an employee, then had an in-person interview day at Convene in NYC. When I got there, I was checked in at the front desk and sent to a room with other interns. The interview day started with a welcome from the Convene team. They explained the process, answered questions, and tried to make us feel comfortable. We were interviewed individually by three different Convene employees. The conversations were relaxed and friendly, and the employees really showed off the company culture. It was good to talk to different people to get various views on the company and its culture. The interview felt more like a chat, asking basic resume and experience questions. The main goal was to get to know me as a person and candidate, not to ask tricky questions. They clearly care a lot about their culture and want people who fit their mission and values. After the interviews, we did a group activity. They then wrapped up the process, gave a timeline for hearing back, and answered final questions. We got some food and drinks to go when we left. The company and its people did a great job representing Convene.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a challenge and how you managed to resolve it?
- What attracts you to Convene?
Intern
I applied for this internship via an employee referral and it took them 3 weeks to get back to me which was fine. We scheduled an interview but they moved it to the next day last minute. Then the day before the interview, they switched the interviewer. The interview time also changed. On the interview day, I got there early and saw someone else waiting for the same person, making me think it was a group interview, but it wasn't. The interviewer was on time but asked me to wait a few minutes and they'd be right with me. I ended up waiting half an hour. It was annoying to wait that long when they could have just emailed me. It felt like they didn't value my time.
