Project Manager
I applied online and the next day, the hiring manager got my application from the recruiter. The day after that, the hiring manager sent me an invite for a HireVue interview. It's a one-way video interview where you get 3 questions. You get 1 minute to prep and then 3 minutes to record your answer. You can stop recording early if you're done.
- What draws you to Compassion and this position?
- Can you share an example of a successful project you managed? What factors led to its success, and what was your specific contribution?
- Project management is often described as having an artistic side (people) and a scientific side (processes). Do you identify more with the art or the science, and how do you leverage that in your project management approach?
Specialist
The interviews were all very friendly, but the process felt way too long and difficult. Even though it was for a mid-level role, it felt more like interviewing for a Director position. There were 4 interview rounds, and each had its own requirements. It's really disappointing to go through all of that and then not get the job offer. I think it would be better if they limited it to 2 interviews and found a way to get the results they need more efficiently. It's a struggle for us job seekers.
- When faced with several projects, what's your strategy for deciding which ones to tackle first?
Contract Administrator
Things moved fast at first. I applied and sent in my faith affirmation, which included my church affiliation and details on ministries I'm involved in. Then I did the HireVue digital interview, which I felt went pretty well. I answered the questions within the time limit and gave examples from my past experience. After that, it got weird because I heard nothing back. Not even a rejection. A whole month went by, and then I got an email. They said they were really impressed with me, but surprise, an internal candidate applied and totally blew them away with her qualifications. I suspect they had an internal hire in mind from the start, which is fine, but it makes no sense to have candidates jump through hoops and waste their time. I would have liked to work there, but I have to say, having to prove my faith felt really cult-like. I've been in church my whole life and love God, but having to tell my life story and 'prove' my faith to a potential employer felt like some kind of cult requirement.
- Are you familiar with the specific duties required for this role, such as x, y, and z?
Marketing Specialist
I applied in June, and it was a long process, though HR mentioned it's usually not this lengthy. I began with a HireVue video interview. A week later, I had a nice phone interview with HR. It took another 5 weeks to get a 1:1 Zoom interview with the hiring manager, which felt like a conversation and was lovely. I felt good after that interview. However, almost two weeks later, I got an email saying I wasn't moving forward to the final interview. The whole thing took over three months, which was exhausting with the ups and downs. I asked for feedback but never got a response. While I trust their decision, given how invested I was and how long it took, I hoped for feedback. They did mention their process usually isn't this long. Compassion seems like a great place to work with a good mission, but the interview process wasn't as positive as I'd hoped.
