First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Commonwealth-Altadis.
Manager
The interview process was well-executed, leading to a swift decision. I focused on presenting my qualifications effectively. There was a genuine effort to ensure alignment in interests and expectations. To expedite my start, I accepted an initial consultant role, transitioning to permanent later, due to HR being understaffed and overburdened.
- What are your strategies for addressing low employee morale and underperformance?
- Describe your approach to merging two established teams with distinct skills and backgrounds into a single unit.
Territory Manager
First there was a phone interview. Then I was invited to interview in Nashville, and they offered to cover travel expenses. The interview had two parts: a sales roleplay and a regular interview. I was given product and consumer information about an hour before the roleplay. During the roleplay, which was videotaped, I had to persuade an interviewer to buy a product using the provided information. The regular interview included situational questions, questions about my knowledge of the company and products, and my thoughts on the industry's performance and potential improvements. The whole thing took about 3 hours, with roughly an hour dedicated to the actual interview and roleplay.
- What challenges do you foresee for the tobacco industry and how would they impact a TM's marketing role?
- Can you describe a time you experienced failure?
- What do you know about our company and products?
Area Sales Manager
The interview day was pretty packed, kicking off around 8 am and wrapping up by 4 pm. It involved a bunch of different things. We had three role-play sessions, including one where we had to do a mock sales presentation. There was also a quick-fire interview panel with four Regional Managers who asked some tough questions. On top of that, we had to handle some hypothetical email exchanges – first acting as a supervisor responding to a team member, and then switching roles to be a direct report replying to a supervisor. The most challenging part was a role-play where we, along with other candidates, formed a pretend senior sales management team tasked with figuring out solutions for various company problems and hurdles.
- Can you share an instance where you juggled multiple tasks to achieve your sales targets or execute sales strategies?
- Describe a situation from your previous roles where you assisted a colleague in accomplishing their goals.
Sales Manager
First, there was a phone interview. Then, I spent half a day in the field with the manager and another TSM, seeing what a day in the life of a rep with this company is like, which involved calling on accounts. This field part focused on simple merchandising and contract compliance, and also gave me exposure to their sales call process and reporting. After that, I had a panel interview with two HR people and the regional manager. Finally, there was an extensive background check, including a credit check.
