This is about the interview process for the City of San Jose, Senior Airport Operations Specialist I. The first interview has six questions. The second interview is with higher-ranking individuals than the managers on duty. This interview is dependent on your past experience, and they will ask follow-up questions. For example, if you have flight experience, they will ask more about that. Someone was asked about their favorite area to work in at an airport, what they do on a normal day, what projects they have worked on, how they get along with people, and if they've had issues with their boss or a coworker. To start the second interview, you will sign in at the front desk and then an ops duty manager will come get you.

After applying, there was a 2-month wait for the first interview, which was a Zoom call with 5 people. Then, there was a 1.5-week gap before the second interview, which was in person with a 3-person panel. It only took a few days after the second round to get an offer. The questions were pretty standard and easy, focusing on customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. There were also a couple of technical questions about specific program skills, like Excel. Everyone on the panels was really nice and seemed genuinely interested in the conversation.

Even though I am from out of state, I flew out to San Jose for the interview process. It involved a writing assignment and then a panel interview. I was ultimately told I didn't meet the minimum qualifications because I don't have a California driver's license. I have an out-of-state license and would have gotten a California one if I'd been hired and moved there. This felt unfair given the time and money I spent to travel, especially since they knew about my license status from my application.
