Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of San José.
Engineering Technician
I had two interviews. First, a zoom call with a 30-minute slot where they went through a slideshow covering 3 general behavioral questions. I got to ask my questions at the end. It only took about 15 minutes. Second, I interviewed with a division of the City. It was a panel interview with 3 engineers. They asked me informal questions about myself and the City of San Jose.
- Can you describe how you handle managing multiple projects simultaneously?
- What would you say is your greatest strength?
- And what would you consider your biggest weakness?
IT Technician
Got asked 8 questions and had about 50 minutes to answer them. I managed to answer 7 of the 8 questions. It was just one interview and I got the job.
- What is your experience with audio?
- Tell me about your experience in customer experience.
- Do you have experience with fixing PCs?
Laboratory Technician
The process starts with a 100+ question exam. If you pass that then there is an in-person interview with a panel of 3-4 supervisors asking standardized questions and taking notes on your responses. After that, you'll meet with the hiring manager for more standardized questions/notes. The total process took 4 months!
