Software Engineer
So before the actual interview, there's like this questionnaire that's not technical. Then comes the phone screen, followed by interviews with team members. Some of the non-technical team members seemed really uninterested, like they were disturbed from the get-go. They'll hit you with irrelevant HR questions, like how certain situations made you feel. The more technical folks will actually try to gauge your knowledge. But honestly, a lot of it is just you rating yourself on a scale instead of them actually testing your skills. Expect a ton of HR-type questions. No system design, no algorithms, no design patterns, nothing about the nitty-gritty of the language. They're mostly interested in your past work experience at a high level.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to work with a coworker who was difficult?
- Tell me about a time you encountered a difficult coworker and how you managed that relationship.
- Could you share an instance of working with a challenging colleague?
Software Architect
I made it all the way to the end. I had a meeting scheduled with the CTO for the final step, and they indicated they were getting the offer ready and would share preliminary details. However, he didn't show up for our Teams meeting. I reached out to the internal recruiter and the scheduler, but got no response. They eventually got back to me later that day, apologizing for the CTO's no-show and explaining he needed to reschedule. I'm still waiting for the scheduler to contact me with the CTO's availability. This happened a week ago. It's pretty bad to be ghosted when they're supposedly preparing the offer letter. If they're this disorganized during the interview process, I wonder what their day-to-day operations are like.
- Classic HR questions about my job history.
- Classic HR questions about my role on projects.
Consultant
So there were 2 interviews. First was with the recruitment coordinator, then the second was with the manager of the team I would be joining. Both were pretty chill, they wanted to see if I was interested in the practice area I was applying to. They also asked about how I'd handle solutioning for system configuration and app delivery.
- Can you describe your approach to system configuration?
- What are your methods of configuring a system?
- How would you approach solutioning system configuration?
Project Manager
It took about 2 weeks from applying to the virtual interview. The interview was not well organized and they didn't seem to know who was going to join the call. Three people ended up on the call and none of them turned on their camera, even though I had mine on. Someone said they would turn theirs on once everyone was on the call but that never happened. It was super awkward. It didn't seem like they had a list of formal questions and just went around asking if anyone had anything else. A couple of weeks after not hearing anything, I reached out to follow up. The person that was on the call said they don't get updates and would forward my inquiry to someone that would know the status. It's been a couple of weeks and still have not heard anything. It would be considerate to at least tell people who took the time to interview that they are no longer being considered for the position.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully completed a task?
- Describe your approach to managing conflict.
