CEA Interview Questions
& Process

The hiring managers informed me that they didn't have enough to hire me after all the stages. It takes a lot of time in my search and I think we should know the budget before asking a lot from candidates.

CEA puts out a list of internships. The good thing is that the contact info for the research engineers is available. So there's no HR interview. After applying, there's first a phone call with the internship director. Then, if the internship director approves the candidate, they discuss it with their lab manager. If the manager approves the candidate, and the candidate is cleared to work on nuclear sites (French and clean criminal record), then they are officially accepted.

The interview had two parts: first, meeting two managers from the team; second, a month later, meeting an HR manager. Both interviews went well, with the interviewers keen to present the CEA and the target position as accurately as possible so the candidate would be fully aware of the environment awaiting them. According to the recruiters, this is justified by the length of the administrative procedures: if you hire someone who then leaves because they imagined the role differently, it's a waste of time!

After I arrived for the interview, I was greeted warmly and invited to sit. The interviewer began by giving a brief overview of the company and the role I was applying for. The questions then started, coming quickly and directly. I was asked to describe my previous job, focusing on my key duties and accomplishments. Then, I was asked about the skills that I felt were most important to my success, and I responded by mentioning my problem-solving abilities and teamwork. After a few more questions about my expectations and availability, the interviewer thanked me for my time and interest. They outlined the next steps in the hiring process, stating I'd hear back within a week. I left the room feeling the interview was clear, to the point, and efficient.
